“Who Wants to Be a Perennial Stream?” |
This year the Acton Stream Teams in cooperation with the Acton Conservation
Commission presented everyone’s favorite Earth Day game show: “Who Wants
to Be a Perennial Stream?”
It was a fun and educational version of the popular ABC show.

Contestants answered environmental questions such as: |
An ‘otter slide’ is which of the following?
A. A new ride at Canobie Lake Park
B. Access to a stream for a water-loving mammal
C. A musical instrument
D. A disco dance popular in the late 1970’s
|
| Contestants advanced through 9 different levels of questions from the Construction
Site Level to the Perennial Stream Level. Prizes included a magnificent
pen and ink rendition of Nashoba Brook drawn by Acton Natural Resource
Director, Tom Tidman, and USGS topographic maps. Meanwhile Earth Day attendees
learned the distinction between perennial and intermittent streams, that
perennial streams are eligible for up to 200 feet of protection from the
stream bank, and that the Acton Stream Teams and Acton Conservation Commission
are seeking volunteers to make observations, and take photos of Acton streams. |
