| In lieu of a community-wide event in 2004, the Acton Earth Day Committee created an online resource: “Acton’s Virtual Earth Day 2004”. Click here to link to this great resource, which is hosted on the Acton Citizens for Environmental Safety website (www.actonaces.org). |
More about Acton Earth Day
|
 |
| The first annual Acton Earth Day was held in 1996 in the Acton Arboretum.
The event was organized and run by the Acton Earth Day Committee, founded
by Charlotte Sagoff. Charlotte and her team of “Earthlings” created a wonderful
event to help Acton celebrate the earth, and to raise awareness of how
we can all help protect its natural resources. Community groups, entertainers,
food vendors, and school groups all participated. Nature walks and field
trips to local areas of interest were also featured. |
| In subsequent years, similar Acton Earth Day Celebrations have been sponsored
and carried out by the Acton Earth Day Committee at the Acton Boxborough
Regional High School field, Acton Arboretum, Conant School, and NARA Park.
These celebrations, held during late April or early May, have included:
storytellers, maypole dances, two original plays by Christine MacDonald,
a hand-built native american wigwam, morris dancers, energy efficient cars,
an enactment of the Giving Tree featuring Jamie Eldridge, nature walks,
puppet shows, and hands-on displays by community and school groups. |
